MERI New Modelをこの度リリースしました。
これまで、サイズや鼻緒の位置などを少しずつ改良してきましたが 今回は思い切って大きく変えました。
そこで、ここでは新しくなったMERIをご紹介したいと思います。

A new model of MERI Zori Slipper has been released!
Little by little, we have worked to improve the size and strap location, leading to big changes in our design.

私たちはMERIを作り始めて10年になります。
草履は昔から、鼻緒のツボは中心についており、それが体の中心である丹田とつながっていてバランスがとれているんだろうなと特に違和感を覚えることなく、あたりまえのこととして作っていました。
しかし、前ツボは親指と2番目の指の間に入ります。中心にあると、人によっては小指が外に落ちやすく、かかとはやや内側を向いてしまいます。
外履きの草履と違って、私たちの布ぞうりはニット製です。台から指が落ちるということは床についてしまうことになりますので、このことを解消してすべてのお客様に安定して履いて頂きたいと思っていました。
そこで前ツボを内側に寄せて、足の形に素直な形にしてみたのです。。
前ツボを内側に寄せることで、足を安定して土台に乗せることが出来、フィット感が増しています。より快適におうち生活を楽しんで頂けると思います。

It has been ten years since we first created MERI Zori Slippers.
Traditionally, the strap of the zori is placed in the center of the front part of the base, as this is said to connect to the stomach - the center of the body - and will help wearers maintain their balance without feeling as if anything is off. This design element generally goes unquestioned.
However, the strap is inserted between the big toe and the small toe beside it. If the strap is placed in the center, then - depending on the wearer - their small toes may slide out of the slipper, and their heel may turn inwards.
Unlike traditional zori sandals, our zori slippers are hand-knit and meant to be worn indoors. Thus, we wanted to figure out a way to solve the problem of the wearer’s toes slipping and touching the floor.
This led us to move the front strap to the inside of the base so the feet could maintain their natural position. With this design change, the wearer can feel more at ease, as they have a sturdier fit. This also makes them much more suitable to be worn around the house.

MERI の土台の大きさも改良を加えました。
職人と試作を繰り返し、つま先側を広く、足の指が安心しておさまる、より快適な形を作りました。 かかとは少し出るくらいが粋である。と思っていましたが、やはり高さのない布ぞうりは、それでは直接床を感じてしまいます。足がきれいに全面に乗り、今までよりもたっぷりとした台にモデルチェンジしました。また、年々私たちのお客様がお求めになるサイズも大きくなっており、従来のものより縦横10％程度大きくしました。

We have also improved the size of the base of our MERI Zori Slippers.
Our craftspeople made many samples before settling on a shape where the front part is widened, so the toes feel more secure. The heel is meant to stylishly hang out of the MERI Zori Slipper just a little. However, if the zori slipper isn’t high enough, then the wearer will feel the floor beneath them. We have built up the base more in our new model so your whole foot will feel comfortable.
What’s more, in recent years our customers have been requesting larger sizes, so the total width of the new model is about 10% larger than the old model.
